Case Management
Each person entering the program is assigned a case manager to help him or her reach his or her short and long term goals. Case Managers assist clients with getting financial aid, housing, childcare, medical attention, disability, veterans assistance, social security and anything and everything necessary for them to achieve self sufficiency. Additional services are available to those with special needs.
Mental Health/Substance Abuse: SHOP Program
A partnership with Baycare Behavioral Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (SAMHSA) to provide on-site intensive individualized support services to homeless persons with serious psychiatric conditions or with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders.
Personal Supplies and Clothing
Each person is given the necessary amount of personal hygiene supplies and appropriate clothing upon entering the shelter. These supplies help to increase self-esteem and provide a positive effect that will lead to gainful employment.
Mobile Medical
The Pinellas County Medical Van visits the shelter twice weekly to address any physical health needs of those living in the shelter. The van is staffed with a doctor, nurse, and social worker. Their services include all types of medical assistance, referrals to specialists, as well as treatment and immunization for children.
Veterans Service
Bay Pines Medical Center provides an outreach representative who visits veterans living at the shelter for eligibility and assessments needs.
Med Management / Disability Payee
HEP can provide representative payee’s for Social Security and/or Disability for those residents in need of mandatory financial management. Medication supervision is available for those who have difficulty regulating medications.
Legal
Free legal advice is available from Gulf Coast Legal Service on a weekly basis for those in need of assistance for disability claims, and other basic claims.
Public Assistance - ACCESS
Automated Community Connection to Economic Self-Sufficiency, on-line. HEP is a public ACCESS location where individuals can apply or re-apply for Food Stamps, Cash Assistance and Medicaid benefits.
The Intangible
The staff and volunteers of HEP hand out daily doses of encouragement, kindness, compassion and opportunity, in a professional and supportive manner.
