Case Management Each person entering the program is assigned a case manager to help him or her reach his or her short and long term goals. Case Managers assist clients with getting financial aid, housing, childcare, medical attention, disability, veterans assistance, social security and anything and everything necessary for them to achieve self sufficiency. Additional Services are available to those with special needs. Food Complete meals are served seven days a week to all residents in emergency shelter. This provides the nourishment many are lacking. Food baskets are distributed to individuals and families residing in the off-site housing. Personal Supplies and Clothing Each person is given the necessary amount of personal hygiene supplies and appropriate clothing upon entering the shelter. These supplies help to increase self-esteem and provide a positive effect that will lead to gainful employment. Dental Clinic A free, comprehensive dental clinic has been established by Dr. C.W. Johnston and is available for everyone entering the shelter. Seventeen dentists continually volunteer their time and expertise to the program. The dental clinic provides full dental care, including restoration and reconstruction of teeth. Hygienists from St. Petersburg Junior College donate hygiene services twice a week. Medical Nurse/ ARPN Morton Plant Hospital staffs a multidisciplinary mental health care team at HEP consisting of a Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Social Worker who work collaboratively with HEP staff, Directions for Mental Health and a myriad of community health care partners. Mobile Medical The Pinellas County Medical Van visits the shelter twice weekly to address any physical health needs of those living in the shelter. The van is staffed with a doctor, nurse, and social worker. Their services include all types of medical assistance, referrals to specialists, as well as treatment and immunization for children. Veterans Service Bay Pines Medical Center provides an outreach representative who visits veterans living at the shelter for eligibility and assessments needs. Med Management / Disability Payee HEP can provide representative payee’s for Social Security and/or Disability for those residents in need of mandatory financial management. Medication supervision is available for those who have difficulty regulating medications. Legal Free legal advice is available from Gulf Coast Legal Service on a weekly basis for those in need of assistance for disability claims, and other basic claims. The Intangible The staff and volunteers of HEP hand out daily doses of encouragement, kindness, compassion and opportunity, in a professional and supportive manner. |
