Free Dental Clinic
The Free Dental Clinic at Homeless Emergency Project, Inc. was created in 1994 to provide free dental care for homeless and very low-income individuals and families. Since its inception, over $1.5 million worth of free dental care has been provided by volunteer dentists and hygienists.
The dental care provided enhances employment prospects, improves quality of life and self-esteem. Many of the individuals receiving these services have never seen a dentist and are able to receive treatment for the first time in their lives. In addition, children are receiving necessary dental treatments and education for prevention and good oral hygiene.
In 1998, Dr. C. Wm. Johnston, the clinic’s founder, received The President’s Service Award in honor of his volunteer commitment to improving the dental health and physical outlook of the homeless and poor.
Operational funding for the clinic is received primarily from private contributions. Expenses include supplies, lab fees and one part-time Dental Assistant.
HEP’s Free Dental Clinic is run entirely on the generosity of volunteer dentists from the community!
