Developing Life-Long Habits of Giving

Engaging youth in the most basic and rewarding of democratic principles—the giving of “time, talent and treasure” to benefit the common good is the inspiration behind the Kids Who Care Club at HEP.

The members of Kids Who Care, ranging in age from 8-16, are dedicated to using their time, talent and treasure in cooperation with others to help meet the needs of low-income and homeless people in our community.

Our Kids Who Care formed through a dream of a few students to make a difference in the lives of homeless adults in the community. Students created a mission statement, elected a board of directors, solicited financial support and began reaching out to the homeless community. Through the support of dedicated staff members, Kids Who Care took flight. Meeting every Wednesday night, KWC members have provided bus passes, bicycles and dental care for the homeless.

Membership is important to the success of Kids Who Care. We are looking for middle school and high school age students to join this group. Members will hear about many needs within our community, and get to participate in fundraising activities to help meet these needs. Annual membership dues are $20.

"The Kids Who Care Program at HEP is a remarkable demonstration of youth empowerment in practice. It's exciting to see the personal development and leadership initiative demonstrated by these youth, many of whom our society would expect to fail given the hardships they have faced. All of the children engaged in this program are being given the opportunity to develop life-long habits of giving back to their community."
